These trial lessons are meant to give new players a chance to explore in a way that one lesson cannot. For continuing students, they provide ample time to explore the depths of violin playing and to see if we are a good fit.

Instrument sizing guide

Use this guide to find the right instrument size before you rent or buy. Try to bring an instrument to the first lesson if you can — one is expected by the second.

Questions

F&Q

Are the three free trial lessons really free? Is there an obligation afterward?

Yes — the three weekly 30-minute lessons are free, and a packet of materials will be provided. After the free trial lessons, students are welcome to continue studying with me. There's no obligation to continue.

What ages do you teach?

I teach all ages. For younger students, readiness depends on disposition more than age alone.

Where are lessons held?

It depends on the day, but all locations are in San Mateo. I'll confirm the exact location when we schedule.

Do parents stay during lessons?

Yes — parents should stay for beginning students and for students under the age of 7. For beginners under 7, parents are expected to assist with practice at home, so it's important to pay attention during the lesson.

Do I need an instrument?

Please review the sizing guide and try to bring an instrument to the first lesson if you can. If you need more time, that's okay for lesson one — an instrument is expected by the second lesson so regular at-home practice can begin.

Do you teach Suzuki?

Yes! I use it for beginners and intermediate students.

What happens after the free trial lessons?

Students are welcome to continue studying with me. If you'd like to continue, we can talk about the regular lesson schedule from there.
